Layouts & Cards

Well, here's my big kick-off to LM's Summer Scrapfest. I'm pleased with what I've gotten done today PLUS I still have another LO on my table that just needs to be glued down, but that might wait til tomorrow....I'm tired now. I made each of these LOs & then used the scraps that were left to do the cards below.Ella's 30th BD party
Dr. Falwell with J. O. Grooms...taken at the Lynchburg airport back in 1982. Found these in Clay's old stash of pictures. He says it was after meeting him on this trip to LBC that he decided he wanted to come to school at Liberty(LBC back then)

Off to read.......IF Clay's not snoring too loud! Ha!

This & That

Clay & the boys were in a little fishing tourney at Smith Mt. Lake yesterday. It's just Clay & a few friends from work. Anyway, Jon & Michael fished with Clay & Jon basically won the tourney for them with this bass. She weighed in at 6.5 lbs! WTG Jon!! Clay gave him half of the prize money & the other half went to pay for expenses. Pretty good money management lesson there. ;-)

Just a couple of BD cards that I made last night. Trying to work on my stash & also get the June BD cards ready that I'll need for the coming month.

And last, but not least.....just thought y'all might get a kick out of seeing my senior high school picture. I'm doing Summer Scrapfest at LM & since they have gone back to their 'Old School' method for the cyber crop, we are all using Grade school/High school pics for our ID cards. Have signed in this morning & printed off the challenges for the coming week. Now, to get my chores done so I can go scrap!

Gremlins

Just a couple of BD cards I made today. The pink was made from a goodie bag of papers I received from Wanda today. (Thanks Girl!!) She sent me tons of yummy papers & this just jumped right out & grabbed me......it was perfect for Summer's birthday card.Found this Gryffondor coat of arms when I was looking at some Harry Potter coloring book pages. Thought it would make a cool BD card for Dillon. I love how it turned out!

This has got to be one of the DUMBEST movies I have seen in a long time!!!!!!! For some reason we were talking about Gremlins the other day & I asked Chris if he had ever seen it & he said No. Well, I had never seen it either, so we decided to queue it up on Netflix. Anyway, Chris, Ashley, Jon & I watched this last night & we thought it was the biggest waste of time! Jon just thought it was hilarious......& wants to see the second one now. Whatever.........Kaye, I told Clay now that I've seen this......we can go watch Indiana Jones & it will seem wonderful! ;-)

Banjo 006

This is SO Michael...................he came into the kitchen the other night & said................."Banjo 006...'It shines like a beacon to call fish from a distance.' " Just out of nowhere, that's what he said to me. He was quoting a fishing lure commercial! He's such a goof & ALWAYS keeps me laughing!

'Summer of the Midnight Sun'

Just a few scriptures & my favorite quotes from this Tracie Peterson book that I just finished this morning.

From Lamentations ch. 3-
The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. The Lord is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. It is good that a man should both hope & quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord.

It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

**Chaos in life is given by the father of chaos, whereas peace comes from God alone. It's a special kind of peace that changes night into day & storm into calm.**

**Just don't forget that life is about more than work. You need a little rest & fun now & then!!** AMEN! ;-)

The Lonely Goatherd

Got that song stuck in my head this afternoon when the kids were running around outside trying to 'herd' the goats!

'High on a hill was a lonely goatherd

Lay ee odl lay ee odl lay hee hoo!'

We let them out of their pen for a while to let them check out their new surroundings & munch on some of our weeds. It was so funny to stand back & see the whole family out there just watching our new pets & enjoying the evening together. Reminded me of the time way back when Rodney & Amy were up here when we first got our chickens & we were all sitting around the chicken pen in lawn chairs just watching the chickens. We are going to get a couple of chains & be able to stake them where we want them & not have them just wandering around the whole yard. And of course we have turned this into one our 'Unschooling' opportunities. Ashley & I got some books at the library this afternoon about goats. So, we are already 'learning'. ;-)

Meet Sparky & Toby

These are the newest members of our family....Sparky & Toby. This is Sparky
And this is Toby!

They are 3 months old & just so dang cute! Every time I go to look for Alli today, I see her out there by the pen feeding & talking to them. She says, 'They cry every time I leave them!' Do you think they could be spoiled already??

Ashley's picture.....this MUST go on a scrapbook page! She & Chris have BEEN done with them, I'm on the fifth one, Jon is on the second one & believe it or not, Clay is reading them too....but he's still on the first one. Ashley said it only took her 31 days to read all 7 books...4,100 pages! Not bad, my girl, not bad!!

Grumpy Day

Kind of a lazy day today * Tuesdays usually are....we call them Clay's 'Grumpy Day' because he's tired from working all weekend & needs a day to chill/rest * did several loads of laundry * ran to Food Lion to get some pudding...I needed a box of vanilla pudding for a recipe I was trying...also got Jon some Blue Raspberry jello * Baked the Amish Friendship Bread that Ella had given me the starter for & boy was it YUMMY! * We devoured a whole loaf in about 5 minutes! * Seperated the starter & sent a cup of it over to Gayle when Clay & Jon went * Fixed baked ziti, french bread & salad for supper * Jon & Clay went to pick up our new pets............two goats named Toby & Sparky. * Some lady at work gave them to him...they've had all their shots & been fixed & she just wanted them to go to a good home & I think everyone at Frito Lay knows Clay is the person to go to if they have animals to give away....Ha! Ha!....they know our kids LOVE any kind of animal!! * It was after dark when they got home....can't wait to get some good pictures of them tomorrow. * Also did my Design Team assignment for the July newsletter this afternoon AND made a BD card for Dillon * Think I'm headed upstairs to read now.

We are headed to Maw's this afternoon for a cook-out, so I need to be getting my chores done. Need to fix some deviled eggs, baked beans, chocolate chip cookies & make a pitcher of tea. Hope everyone has a wonderful day & I, of course, will update with pictures tomorrow. ;-)

Some Cards

First of all...my ATC...for the 'Salt' challenge. I've been having so much fun with the ATCs & have decided to do all the Salt challenges this way. Makes for a really cool collection. Anyway, this challenge was based on the verses from Matt. 22:37-40 & I John 2:5-6 about 'Walking in Love'
Below are several cards done using ribbon, but this one in particular, was done for Korin's challenge to use ribbon on a card in a 'Different' way....not the usual tie a knot/bow type of thing.

This 'I Love Paris in the Sprintime' card was copied from one of my Take Ten magazines.

And this one also was copied from Take Ten. I stamped four hearts on patterned paper & then cut them out & put them together to make flower petals.

And last, but not least, this was copied from the batch of cards that Korin sent me the other day. It opens in the middle, the big heart is attached to the left side & helps to hold the card closed.

Ashley's Layouts

Here are some of Ashley's most recent layouts. She's putting them here so hopefully her cousins will see them & get inspired to post some of THEIR work for her to see.Ashley took this one of Alli one afternoon when they went for a walk.
Clay was being a big goof & trying to ride Jon's little bike.
Ashley did a little photo shoot with Alli a few years back. She was modeling the poncho I made for her.

These pics were taken in Jan. 2005.....Ashley & Alli along with their cousins....Brittany, Christie & Caitlin.

Jon's new gun

Well, Jon is the proud owner of a new gun! Don't ask me all the specifics....cuz I don't know...But, Mason picked him up this morning at 7:30am & they headed off to a gun show over in Harrisonburg. They had a great time together.....gun show, lunch at Wendys & to top it all off, a new gun! Jon is so blessed to have such a good neighbor/friend/mentor in Mason.
I took these bottom two pics with Aunt Vada in mind...Don't know why....just thought she might enjoy seeing these! The first one is of Skippy raking the hay in the front field out by the tower & the bottom one is of John Ed & Skippy. John Ed is baling & if you look close enough you can see Skippy standing right in front of that bale of hay.

Clay's Geek-Mobile

Here is the imfamous 'Geek-Mobile' in all her glory! Ha!
Ashley & Alli were riveted to the TV as they announced the new American Idol!
Was playing around with my camera outside this evening & this is what I got.......
Bunny was catching a few ZZZZZZs in Clay's wheel barrow.

Baby Sanji
Tuck peeking out from under one of the old buildings.
Taffy playing Hide & Seek with me in the grass.
Nana resting for a minute under the wheel barrow.
And Bootsie......well, he's the 'King'.....sitting up on top of the car. Can you see his battle scars on his nose? That's what he gets for messing around with the lady cats! Tee! Hee!

Geo Metro

Spent the majority of our afternoon in C'ville today buying another car! It's a Geeky little car just for Clay to drive back & forth to work (Chris gets the Subaru) ....a 1992 Geo Metro...for $420. So for about $1800 we now have TWO little cars that will hopefully help us out tremendously on gas!My layout for the day today...pics of Michael & Jon showing off some of their Crappie they caught at Smith Mt. Lake back in April.

Just a Tuesday.....

Just your normal everyday stuff going on around here yesterday. Clay went over to Mason's & piddled around, working on our lawn mower. I folded & put away several baskets of laundry. Washed the sheets off of three beds & remade them.....goodness they smell so nice & fresh after hanging on the line all day! Ran to the post office & mailed some cards. Out to Food Lion to pick up some of their whole chickens that are on sale for .47/lb. Sat outside & read for a while....starting on the 5th Harry Potter book now. Went BACK out to Food Lion with Clay because he wanted to get some of their steaks that were on sale to grill for supper......that way we BOTH were able to pick up two more chickens apiece (there was a limit of 2 per person). So, now I have 6 whole chickens in my deep freeze....not bad for about $2.45 each!! Had grilled steaks for supper along with baked potatoes, salad & fresh squash from the freezer. Ashley did the dishes while I helped Alli start her bath. Mopped the kitchen floor & sat down to watch the final American Idol with the kiddos. Looks like all three rounds last night went to David A. I sure hope he wins!! Below are a couple of layouts that I finally finished up yesterday.Love this one of Daniel & Ashley sitting in the back of our van....he wanted to listen to her CDs! Of course here he was listening to High School Musical....& singing right along.....'Getcha Head in the Game....getcha, getcha...' He was SO cute!! Ashley & I laughed so hard our cheeks hurt!
And this is Jon with his new bow that he got for his 13th birthday. That was one happy kid when they came home from fishing one day & he realized that the UPS guy had come! ;-)

Happy 30th Birthday

We celebrated Ella's 30th birthday today at Maw's house. We had a really nice time, but missed Sarah....she wasn't able to join us because Daniel was sick. That's ok...we'll party for her BD next month. ;-)Love this picture of Ella, me & Florence! Need to crop that drink bottle out & blow this one up!
Here is her 'Old as Dirt' cake......a white cake mix with white frosting & crunched up oreos in the middle & on top. I covered little Hershey's minis with purple patterned paper & decorated them with little flower punchies. Can you possibly guess that Ella's favorite color is purple?! There's also purple Iris in a vase in the background.

'Happy Birthday dear Ella...Happy birthday to you!'
All tuckered out....too much partying. Isn't that just the sweetest thing?!
The teens/tweens: Ashley, Catherine, Evan & Dillon Jesse with his new 'girlfriend'. ;-) He loves Ashley to death & she loves spending time with him too! Look at those cute little piggies in the very bottom edge of the picture...love baby toes!

Good Mail Day

Was sitting outside reading this afternoon & happened to look over & saw Nana curled up sleeping on the bench with Bootsie. Thought they were just too cute together! Great mail day today...I got a box of goodies from LM! Just look at all the yummy 'Fancy Pants' stuff I got today for participating in the NSD crop. WooHoo....can't wait to scrap now!

Barbie Goodies

I posted this pic for Jay & Elizabeth to see....Alli & her best friend, Cori got these little goodies yesterday at AC Moore to have for their Barbies. The little Adirondack chair was just a dollar & Alli came home & painted it white last night. It's the cutest little thing & just the right size for a Barbie chair. The tiny baby bottles were found in the cake decorating section. They put their money together & bought them & then divided them out. They are perfect for their Baby Kelly dolls!
