School News

Just thought I'd post a little update about our Homeschooling. Day before yesterday, I'm proud to say that Ashley finished up her History for this year. She was doing 'God's World-His Story' by Christian Light Publications. Jon has already finished one History book...'Our American Heritage'(Abeka) & only has 8 more chapters to go in 'The History of Our United States' (Abeka) That shouldn't take him too much longer. Yesterday, Michael was excited about finishing up his math book. We tried a new math this year with him (the others are using Saxon)....he used 'Life of Fred' Fractions...by: Stanley F. Schmidt, Ph.D. It's a literature based math book & tells the story/adventures of Fred. I really liked it & think he did too. We will probably go ahead & use this again next year for him & pass the fractions on down to Alli. As I said, Ashley & Jon are both doing Saxon math. Yesterday Ashley was working on Negative exponents * Scientific Notation for small numbers. Jon worked on Using Formulas * Distributive Property particularlly for finding out area, etc. Alli's big thing is trying to get those multiplication facts memorized....she can do them, it's just being able to pop them off quickly without having to think hard about it. And she is also really enjoying writing in cursive. She really has very nice hand-writing! Ashley continues reading alot of the classics for her literature.....off the top of my head....she has read or is reading: Little Women, Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, Great Expectations, Pride & Prejudice......

wow on all that reading! I am still reading pride and prejudice and when I finish it, that will be the only one of those that I've read. I'm not too good on the classics!
